The monumental Maas tunnel (1942) is the oldest tunnel in the Netherlands and needs major maintenance. New installations are also required to comply with the new Tunnel Safety Act. Compass realises the fibre optic network that controls these installations. There are existing niches in the tunnel wall. All installations are included in these niches. Compass designed a frame to hide the installations in this limited space and still keep these installations accessible for maintenance.
In the Maas tunnel, various activities are performed simultaneously by different parties in one tunnel tube. All parties depend on each other’s progress. Good communication makes the difference to work safely and deliver high quality work.
