The Spijkenisser-bridge is an important traffic connection between Spijkenisse and Rotterdam (the Netherlands). For a better flow of traffic during rush hour, there is an alternating lane system on the bridge. This means that during the morning rush hour two lanes are available towards Rotterdam and during the evening rush hour two lanes towards Spijkenisse. The Spijkenisser-bridge has two movable parts, so there is also a link between the switch lane system and the bridge installation. The interchangeable strip system indicates which termination trees must be released depending on the position of the interchangeable strip.
Because it is important that the correct closing barrier is closed or opened, the ministry of Infrastructure has expressed the wish to have faults in the alternating lane system also visible at the bridge controls. Together with the ministry, Compass has formed a construction team in which the requirements for the connection between the alternating lane system and the bridge installation must be formulated. These requirements have been further elaborated by Compass and its partners into a design and subsequently into a modification of the bridge installation software. After an extensive testing process and successful implementation of the adjustment, Compass has received compliments from the ministry for the rapid implementation and good cooperation in this project!
